Antenatal Preparation & Support
Things don’t always go to plan, however it’s really important to have a plan to begin with!
Whether it’s a multi-page preference sheet, or a couple of points on a post-it note. Taking some time to think about what’s important to you and your family can be invaluable in ensuring you have the best birth experience possible, whatever the circumstances.
Over a few conversations, we can discuss and explore what you might like support with, which could include some (or all) of the following:
your thoughts and feelings around giving birth (including any previous experiences), and the birth you’d like to have;
physiology of birth, stages of labour and the power of hormones;
comfort measures, use of movement, and pain relief options;
getting started writing your birth plan;
if circumstances change, and how your preferences can be taken into consideration;
your birth rights within the maternity system;
communicating with your midwife and other medical professionals;
advocating for yourself (or your partner/birth partner/doula on your behalf);
research, books & birth plan templates, and how to find what you need amidst the labyrinth of conflicting information;
packing for a hospital birth, or preparing for a home birth;
transitioning into the first days of parenthood - feeding options and what the first days with your baby might look like;
anything else you’d like to discuss.
My support can be tailored to meet your needs, either in person or virtually.
Additionally, if you’ve already attended any group antenatal classes (NCT etc…) you might find it beneficial to book in a session to debrief and discuss anything which came up for you during those classes.
Get in touch and we can chat through things in more detail.
